Small movements as communicational cues in HRI
نویسنده
چکیده
In this short paper full body movements as communicational actions (such as steps), which are intuitively used to incite someone’s reaction, will be examined. Those movements are referred to as prompts. An observational study was conducted to examine those prompts in a narrow spatial configuration in a “make each other room” scenario. The observed small communicational movements are presented in this paper.

Exploring Minimal Nonverbal Interruption in Social HRI
Designing robotic behaviours capable of initiating an interruption will be extremely important as robots increasingly interact with people. In this paper, we evaluate a minimal set of physical and nonverbal cues that can be exhibited by a robot to initiate robot-human interruption: (a) speed of motion, (b) gaze, (c) head movement, d) rotation and (e) proximity to the person. We then present a s...
متن کاملFacilitating Mental Modeling in Collaborative Human-Robot Interaction through Adverbial Cues
Mental modeling is crucial for natural humanrobot interactions (HRI). Yet, effective mechanisms that enable reasoning about and communication of mental states are not available. We propose to utilize adverbial cues, routinely employed by humans, for this goal and present a novel algorithm that integrates adverbial modifiers with belief revision and expression, phrasing utterances based on Grice...
متن کاملA Multimodal Nonverbal Human-robot Communication System
Socially interactive robot needs the same behaviors and capabilities of human to be accepted as a member in human society. The environment, in which this robot should operate, is the human daily life. The interaction capabilities of current robots are still limited due to complex inter-human interaction system. Humans usually use different types of verbal and nonverbal cues in their communicati...
متن کاملToward understanding social cues and signals in human–robot interaction: effects of robot gaze and proxemic behavior
As robots are increasingly deployed in settings requiring social interaction, research is needed to examine the social signals perceived by humans when robots display certain social cues. In this paper, we report a study designed to examine how humans interpret social cues exhibited by robots. We first provide a brief overview of perspectives from social cognition in humans and how these proces...
متن کاملDoes a Virtual Talking Face Generate Proper Multimodal Cues to Draw Users Attention to Points of Interest?
We present a series of experiments investigating face-to-face interaction between an Embodied Conversational Agent (ECA) and a human interlocutor. The ECA is embodied by a video realistic talking head with independent head and eye movements. For a beneficial application in face-to-face interaction, the ECA should be able to derive meaning from communicational gestures of a human interlocutor, a...
